The "CorsICT" project, financed by the EC programme Equal, was an indepth regional analysis of the "Polo della corsetteria di Lavello" (a group of corset companies in Lavello) in Basilicata, after suffering a sectoral crisis.
These enterprises, after a significant growth in during the 1990s, have progressively become less competitive, suffering the effects of the growth of the Asian Markets, and since 2001 have sought the counteract such problems with defensive policies (staff redundancies, monthly half days and lower salaries). This position has translated into a comprehensive weaening of the corsetry sector, which in many cases has caused the closure of workshops, and in turn has seriously damaged the local economy and those employed in the sector.
